About The Photographer

Capturing straightforward photographs of buildings is a simple task. Crafting artistic interpretations of architecture presents an entirely different challenge. Noel Baldewijns is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Heusden, Belgium, and he relies on his imagination and the unique state of mind he experiences on any given day to create and enhance his images.

Architectural Photographer

His preferred architects are Santiago Calatrava, Frank Gehry, and Norman Foster. They serve as his inspiration. Calatrava’s designs convey a sense of ‘lightness,’ as though the buildings are ready to soar.

According UK correspondent Thomas Peck, “Noel’s images echo the modern feel of these buildings. The look is strongly stylized, black sky, streaky clouds, segments of buildings, dramatic lines, abstraction, etc. Always sleek, always dramatic. The pictures reflect the excitement that he feels emanating from the buildings. It’s an adrenaline rush. He explains that the link between subject matter and artistic style is very deliberate.”

As Brutalist architecture enters the scene, the narrative gains even greater depth and intrigue

Brutalist buildings, characterized by minimalist designs that emphasize raw construction materials and structural elements, seamlessly align with Noel’s stylized aesthetic. Angular forms and the use of untreated concrete become an artistic expression in his work.

Brutalist architecture adds an extra layer to Noel’s story – a passion for capturing the soul of buildings.

“Alfred Stieglitz inspires Noel, who has received multiple international awards as a photographer.” 📸🏆
